The Unlikely House Guest

This past Saturday night, I really did NOT think I would be coming home with a house guest...that was another Weimaraner. But then again, what do I know? It is a long story, but basically this big guy's family separated and he was left with the Dad, well when the Dad could no longer afford his home, he had to move and couldn't take the dog. So then the dog was shuffled to a family members and then to Howard's sister-in-law. She already has 2 dogs and cats and really didn't want him either, which is totally understandable. He wasn't fed properly prior to coming to her and was withering away by the day. His neck was rubbed raw from a chain, all of his ribs, lungs, hind bones, etc. were jutting out...he basically looked like a walking skeleton. Now if this had been any other type of dog, my kind heart might not have extended such a warm welcome to just any dog. But since he was a Weim, looking much like Oliver, I couldn't leave him. My plan was to get him to our house, settle him down, and fatten him up. For the past week I have been feeding him as much as he can eat every 3 hours and it has worked! He has gained a lot of weight, but still has a ways to go. He has loved playing with Sophie and Oliver, eating lots of treats, and spending cool nights curled up by the fire.
While I would love to keep him, because he really does have a special personality, I cannot have THREE dogs in my home (2 is let alone a zoo) and I really don't enjoy the WWF match that is going on between the dogs 24/7...don't they get tired?! It is great to see him happy and well adjusted, but my patience has been wearing thin lately. Not necessarily because of him, but just because I want my home back to normal :) As one might imagine! So it was quite a blessing when we found a couple who lives on a 26 acre farm, with a 5 acre pond who are excited to take him in. His wife is a certified horse healer/therapist and he said they keep the dogs inside, but spend lots of time outside with them as well. Howard told him about the poor guys checkered past, and it seems like they are very excited to welcome him into their home. Please keep this pup in your prayers as he HOPEFULLY travels on to his final home, a place where he can truly relax and be loved with happy hearts. No more hurt, no more abandonment, no more confusion, no more hungry nights...just a place to call his own!
It has been a trying week between both Howard and I having the H1N1 and then taking on this additional member of the family...but I thank God for the strength He has given us to deal with these situations. I just pray that we will be kept strong as we say good-bye to our new four-legged friend, whom we will not soon forget!

Oh Heavens...What a truly selfless thing for you to do. Is your house still standing?? I feel like three Weims under one roof would almost be like having a pet Brontosaurus. I'm very happy that this boy found a new home. Blessings!
