There is a little auction in Howard's home town, that we have been to and that I continue to check up on each week. When we went a few weeks ago, I purchased an old sewing basket (kind of looks like an apple basket) in a chocolate brown color, that I put in our newly remodeled guest bathroom with towels rolled inside of it. I also found an old fashioned bench (where the ends roll up) covered in a hideous mauve fabric, which I am in the process of recovering. I will need to paint the legs of the bench black and recover the rest in a fabric remenant left over from our wedding. I got both items for less than $20. I love bargains, and if you can deal with sitting amongst a crowd of fried-chicken eating, "older" people, then this is the place for you. They post photos weekly of their latest items and I have my eye on a few this week. I think we may make the trip down to bid on these...
I would sand down the coat tree and put it on the other side of our front door entrance. I'm also thinking I would paint it, but not exactly sure what color yet. I could see painting it an antique white and then distressing it a bit around the edges? Not sure, I will have to see it in person...
I immediately liked this hutch because of its clean, straight lines. It doesn't have all of the curly cues which would not belong in my house. The drawer pulls would definitely need to be changed, and I'm pretty sure I would remove the little miniature railing on the top shelf, but it has good overall lines. I also really like the diamond cut outs at the top. I could see carrying that shape throughout the room in a curtain or other small detail in an accessory, etc. I think this would fit nicely in our dining room and I would actually plan to paint it, BARN RED. Yipes you say? I got this color idea from you guessed it, Sarah's House. It was the RIGHT color of Barn Red and created a nice punch of color. I will have to see though, if it would look OK with the rest of the coloring downstairs. For the most part, the colors are greens, yellows, and browns. I can see it looking perfect with the right accessories and perhaps some antique china...which I'm also on the prowl for.
And lastly, I think this is my favorite find on the auction this week. It will be interesting to see though, if this is a solid material or if it's a plastic type. I could see this sprayed a different color, black perhaps, and displayed on a book shelf. Very fun. And I love horses, of course.
