Orange Overload

One of the kindergarten teachers said that our classrooms look like they "threw up orange" and I totally agree. Halloween has afterall got the best of us and as a result, all things are orange. Luckily for me and my sanity, we only have one more week to celebrate this Halloween holiday and then the color palette will be a bit muter, a little easier on the eyes. But for now, here are some of the things we are doing in my room!

During our Bat Unit, we read the book Stellaluna and created these paper bag bats. They turned out very cute! We also made a diagram and discussed how bats and birds were alike, but also different.

Pictured below is the pumpkin fan face which I found in the Martha magazine and we made them in class. They turned out SO cute and it was so funny how each pumpkin face took on the personality of the child who created it.
We also created our "lifecycle pumpkin" out of a hanger with tissue paper over it. We then cut out the pieces for the stem, vine, flowers, baby pumpkin, leaves, and seed. They hang down so low in the room, but look very neat!
Here is a view of some of them hanging throughout the classroom. This is only the back corner of the room, so you can imagine how full the rest of the room is with them!

Here is our October handprint quilt. We create one every month!

Pictured below are a few of our paper tear pumpkins and then the start of our "Spookly" shoebox pumpkins. There is a children's story called, Spookly the Square Pumpkin about a pumpkin who is square instead of round. He ends up saving all of the pumpkins in the patch and the farmer saves his seeds to plant each year. So, we made our own "Spookly's" and had a lot of fun making them look crazy!

And finally we have our pumpkin "patch" of sorts. It used to be the apple orchard during our apple unit, but has slowly evolved. The apples on the tree are made out of brown paper lunch sacks, stuffed with newspaper and painted to look like apples. And our glitter pumpkin men are sitting on the fence!

Next week we begin our Spider Unit...which honestly pains me because I am deathly afraid of spiders! However, I will post some pictures, because of course, we are doing lots of cute things :)
