Veteran's Day

We had an outstanding Veteran's Day program today at school (which I get to see again tonight thanks to being a Student Council sponsor) and it truly reminded me how thankful we should be for these men and women who have served our country so selflessly. The students heard stories of how these Veteran's had left their families, careers, hopes and dreams to fulfill a duty they only felt was "doing what was right". I hope the messages from staff members, school families, and others resonated with our students and will give them a better understanding for what it means to serve our country.

This Veteran's Day hits painfully close to our family because Howard's brother, Nathan, has already left for Afghanistan. He is doing a bit of training before heading overseas, but will not be home for over a year while on duty. We are very excited in my classroom though, because we are going to write to Nathan and hopefully Skype with him a few times as well. I think this will be a great connection for my students to furthering their understanding of what is going on in our world.

Please thank a Veteran if you see one and remember that we owe all of what we have here in America to these fine men and women.

That is so cool your students will be writing to Nathan while he is in Iraq. You know he will love it....also being able to Skype with him will be awesome too. xoxo
