Life in the Fast Lane

Well today was definitely an experience for me. We went to the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) drag races in Indianapolis at the O'Reily Raceway. Before today I hadn't even heard of drag racing, let alone did I know it drew such a crowd. The stands were filled, the parking lots packed, the corn dogs a' plenty...it was madness!

Howard's company MacAllister Caterpillar sponsors one of the racers, Hot Rod Fuller, who was ranked #1 and is an up and coming racer. This morning we worked one of the tents trying to get people to sign up to win a free CAT things and then after a few hours we moved to the hospitality tent that we had special passes for. Now, lets remember, I'd never heard of this "sport" before and I definitely didn't know who "Hot Rod Fuller" was, but let me tell you-this was cool! His drag car was parked in the MacAllister Caterpillar tent and the pit crew was there getting everything ready to run. He was walking around, mixing his own fuel, chatting it up-a very cool guy. The sound on these cars is phenomenal, all of the guys in the tent tried to tell me it would be loud, but I had NO IDEA! Your entire body rumbles as these cars go by and so does the asphalt...now, that's powerful. This speedy machine goes from 0-300 mph in 4 seconds and the amount of fuel that is in the common car is what this dragster burns in also-4 seconds.
Ok ok, so I know I sound like a little kid, but it was really shall I say, amazing? Something I had never known about really made for a fun day! (Minus all of the Darryl's /ie: rednecks, men wearing shorty shorts, women with tattoos, both sexes having mullets/walking around)
So, besides the weird sunburn I received (thanks to the big sunglasses), can you believe it, I had FUN at a drag race? Well, I will be cheering our man Hot Rod Fuller on hopefully next year when we go back to the races!
