Weekend Inspiration: Farm House Tour

I have definitely been inspired after watching the recent Sarah's House series on HGTV, when she completely renovated and even added on to a charming farm house in the country. Oh Sarah, it must be your fabulous name, but you took my dream and played it before millions of Americans and it was lovely. Yep you heard it. My dream is to renovate beautiful old homes. Gutting them from the bones and refilling them with beauty, fitting today's lifestyle. I love the city, town, or however you want to shake it, but I also long to have hills and hollers. Clearly I've been letting that country music go to my head. But it's true, after having lived in two homes in my short homeowner life, I am already burnt out on living in someone "else's" house. I want the next place I call my humble abode to be all mine from the studs up. Please don't fret, there is not a For Sale sign in our yard, but I have already started to rip out things from magazines, bookmark websites, and scout out good areas of this vast county where I could see planting some forever roots. Mmm how I would love to open the backdoor and let these gray pups run as far as the eye can see and go gather eggs from my very own chickens to cook up for breakfast. Ok, I really did just say that all, don't judge, I told you Martha Stewart was my favorite person next to the good Lord. No surprise here people!

Phew. Anyways. I found this dreamy home that literally made my heart skip a beat not far from where we live now. It is beautiful with a capital B, however it is in the city and in a town that I would rather not live in. BOO. However, it does give me hope that I could find something with such grandeur at such a LOW price. Hot diggity dog, I about bought the place just so I could say it twas mine. So, of course, I had to share it with y'all. Look I'm already fitting right in...
So here she is. Just check out the lovely brick, completely surrounding the home. TO. DIE. FOR. I am also swooning over the detailing above the wrap-around porch. Of course the landscaping needs some serious attention, but that's no biggie. What really hooks me on this place is the carriage house to the left in the photo. Perfect for a guest house, workshop, or detached office. Another view of the great wood working on the front porch. I can picture some great memories happening here.Oh hello home office. Of course the papering would need to go, but I sneak a peek at the built in book shelving on the wall to the left and am loving the high ceilings. I would also be inclined to bet that there are gorgeous hardwoods under that icky carpet as you will see in a few of the photos to follow. The radiators would also obviously go. But that's easy when you're gutting it all. I also love the dark molding. I know white is airy and light, but after seeing the damage two gray hounds do to anything white, I never want to see it in my home again if I can help it.The home's ONLY bathroom. Gasp. Perhaps this is why the selling price is so staggering-ly low. I love to make up words (can you tell?). However, once again. Such a cinch when you're already knocking down walls and adding rooms, which would be at least two more bathrooms. Look look look at the hardwoods and claw foot tub. Both would stay. The rest can take a hike.
A bedroom with great lighting and just look at those floors...

Another bedroom...loving the door and high molding around the floor...grand.
I feel as though this dining room is screaming "HELP! Save me from the purple wallpaper!". Ok, that was mean. But really look at the lovely built in and great space here. Of course the carpeting would have to go.
This kitchen is chalked full of charm and I adore it. Of course, I do not adore red cabinetry even though it is super cute here, but it just is a bit too country for me. I picture the wood flooring in here to match with the rest of the home, white cabinetry, white subway tile back splash, granite counters, with a butcher block island in the middle...
The space in here actually looks really great and I'm squealing over the bead board on the ceiling. So charming. The brick wall is also full of character and would definitely stay put.
Another great space. I believe this is the family room. Again, look at those great floors. Try to shield your eyes from the mauvelous wallpaper. Gag.
The fireplace is neat, seeing as how it dons the original brick, but it definitely needs some updating. It isn't grand enough for this grand home.
Oh la la, the possibilities that could be in this sun room. I picture a great mudroom and maybe laundry workspace aka my second home. Loving the light and exposed brick.

Welp. That's it. Thanks for dreaming with me. This house overall has great space and endless possibilities. Too bad it isn't on some rolling acreage or we might just be packing our bags, greasing up our buggy and being pulled away into the sunset by our horses (aka gray hounds) to this fabulous farm retreat. Only in my dreams. For now.

I am with you on this, Sarah. This home is AMAZING and has such potential. Don't you wish you could pick it up and move it to suit your needs. I love the Sarah program, but I get a bit overwhelmed. She does so many things and seems to make these decisions with no regard to cost. Wouldn't that be GREAT?! But I love her style! I think you will find your dream house to gut and restyle and it will be YOU!
