Talented!

It has been so amazing to work at the Indianapolis Art Center this summer because of all of the splendid art surrounding me each day. From hand blown glass to beautiful paintings, it's a feast for the eyes walking through the halls on my way to the classroom Monday through Friday. Who could complain?

Hawthorn Gallery's Year of the
Woman Artist 2008
We are celebrating the women artists of Hawthorn Gallery in 2008. To our delight, we are presenting five of our internationally known women artists in solo exhibitions of their latest work. There has never been a glass ceiling at Hawthorn Gallery. On the first day in business more than half of our artists were female and although our stable of artists has continually evolved over the years, the percentage of women we represent has remained steady. The strong, knowing, nurturing, sensual and poetic artistic voices of Marlene Rose, Pamela Murphy, Jenny Chi, Jayme Barr-Nobles and Terry Strickland will undoubtedly resonate in each of their virtuoso exhibitions.

JENNY CHI: New Figurative Paintings and Drawings July 18 - August 9, 2008 Hawthorn Gallery is pleased to present the newest figurative paintings and drawings of gallery newcomer Jenny Chi in her first solo exhibition in Alabama. Inspired by classical mythology and the human figure, Jenny paints and draws in a style reminiscent of the old masters, conducting a personal, sometimes rather sly dialogue with the Italian Renaissance in particular. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and can be found in numerous collections worldwide. A native of Taiwan, Jenny received her MFA from the School of Figurative Art of the New York Academy of Art and has studied at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. As an Assistant Professor in the Art Department at Eastern Illinois University, she teaches courses in painting, drawing and the old masters.
I feel so very lucky to know such a talented artist!
