This past weekend Howard and I got going on some more projects around the house or more like finishing up ones we had already started. We've realized we are starting to get too scattered and need to focus more on specific areas. We are finishing up our bedroom and then will be moving on from there. So, I thought it would be fun to take on the task of painting the 80's style wood beam at the top of our vaulted ceiling in our bedroom...mistake. At first I thought it would be loads of fun to paint on a ladder way up high-like a real hardcore painter man, soon I found this was a bad choice. I was shaky on the ladder, I got paint in my hair, and I had to climb down about every 2 minutes to refill my brush with paint. I tried to talk Howard into renting some scaffolding, but he only laughed as he painted the trim, on ground level, mind you. Soon I whined my way out of it and he took over, but the memory still scars me (but, I do take most of the credit for how lovely it looks, because I feel I was up there longer). Howard also put up a new fan in our room to replace what was already there...a fan too ugly to be pictured. The new fan really gave the room a facelift as is all of the painting and other updates we're doing to it. It's so fun to see a home transform just by painting and making simple upgrades, however don't let me fool you-it is hard work too...but work that we like to call sweat equity, CHA-CHING!
I also thought it would be fun to paint the bottom half of our dining room-it is separated by chair rail which has been removed to go white as well-with a discount paint Howard picked up at Lowes. We are all about the Saturday morning discounts (mostly special orders that are returned that they can't put back on the shelves so they slash the prices majorly) and even picked up a cabinet for my bathroom originally $200 marked down to $30!
Well, I really liked the paint color so I figured it would be wonderful in the dining room, however I forgot that I might need to prime over the green paint before I added the brownish shade. Yep, it turned purple. I guess I forgot about my color wheel and what happens when you mix green and brown...who knew you got this lovely shade of lavender? Sophie apparently liked it because she felt the need to pose in front of the wall as I took the picture. This wall will see better days in the future-I promise!
